How does money get into MAP? How is money spent?

Sources of Money

Money that is held in GL accounts can originate from several sources:

• State appropriations - money that is budgeted to WVU by the State Legislature
• Student tuition and fees - money paid by students who attend WVU
• Sales of items or services - revenue earned from food sales at the Mountainlair, tickets from football games, library fines, etc.
• Outside agencies - grant money from government or private organizations for research, building, or other projects

Expenditures

Money goes out of GL accounts to pay for many different functions at the University:

• Salaries for employees - faculty, staff, student workers
• Equipment - purchases of laboratory, grounds, or business equipment
• Buildings - constuction and repair of campus buildings
• Books - for the libraries and academic departments
• Utilitiy payments - electricity, water, internet, etc.
