MAP Grants Accounting

Intro to MAP Grants View responsibility.

The Grants View module in MAP is a custom view-only responsibility available to MAP users who work with or oversee grant funding at WVU. The Grants View module collects and maintains financial and demographic details for sponsored agreements, federal contracts, and cost-sharing accounts. Because this responsibility is view-only, there is no quiz required for access. Just submit the MAP Access request form and select the WVU Grants View responsibility.

The Grants Accounting module in MAP is a sub-ledger (a sub-set of the main WVU accounting system) that is specifically set up to track the unique types of information that are relevant to grant-based funding. Funding for grant projects can come from many sources outside the university, such as government agencies, corporations, and public or private non-profit groups. The Grants Accounting module is also used to maintain college or departmental level accounts that are used for purposes related to grant-funded research, called Cost Shares.

The transactions that are charged to a grant-funded project initially show up in the GA sub-ledger, much like other modules in the MAP system (e.g., a new purchase order is created in the Procurement module before being sent across to the main General Ledger). When a charge to a grant-funded account occurs, the expenditure is first recorded against the Grants account, then the system automatically sends the transaction to the General Ledger.
